(1 Cor 11:24) and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, "Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me."
Memorial Day is defined as a legal holiday in most states of the U.S. in remembrance of those who have died serving our country in war. We honor these great patriots who gave their lives to secure our American freedoms. The price of our freedom today was paid for by many who willingly gave of their blood in the past. Let’s keep this in mind as we enjoy a holiday this week from work and school.
Did you know there is a memorial day in the Bible as well? Whenever we break the bread and drink the cup at the Lord’s table we remember all Jesus did for us on the cross so we could be free. This is not a political or social freedom, it is a freedom from sin that held us in bondage under a cruel taskmaster named Satan. He deceived us and then ruled us mercilessly. But Jesus came along and “knocked his lights out” and set the prisoners free. It is His blood that paid the price and that price was expensive.
(1 Peter 1:18-19) knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.
Let’s thank God today for the freedom we have in Christ and let’s celebrate by lifting our voices so the freedom of Jesus can ring to the ends of the earth!
