MODESTY

(1 Tim 2:9) . . . that the women adorn themselves in modest apparel . . .

Modesty. You don’t hear about it much these days. In fact, it’s just the opposite: “Strut your stuff . . . Do You Think I’m Sexy . . . that dress she wore at the Oscars . . . tight . . . short . . . plunging . . . shock ya! . . . (un)dress to impress . . . sex appeal, don’t you squeal . . . Marilyn Monroe still selling . . . Victoria’s Secret isn’t a secret any more . . . the boys like it . . . fifty is the new thirty . . . what’s wrong with a little flirty?”

Emphasize the inner!

  • (1 Sam 16:7) . . . the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart."

  • (1 Pet 3:3-4) Do not let your adornment be merely outward; arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel; 4 rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God.

Dress for the King:

  • (1 Cor 10:31) . . . whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

Don’t stumble your brother:

  • (Rom 14:19) Therefore let us pursue the things . . . by which one may edify another.

Save it for your husband:

  • (Gen 2:25) And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.

Do you want to be pretty or beautiful?

  • (Est 2:7) . . . The young woman (Esther) was lovely and beautiful . . .

Makeup? If the barn needs painting, paint it! Stylish? Have fun under the Son. But remember:

  • (Pro 31:30) Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing, But a woman who fears the LORD, she shall be praised.

  • (Isa 40:8) The grass withers, the flower fades, But the word of our God stands forever."
