WHEN PEOPLE LET YOU DOWN

Give us help from trouble, For the help of man is useless. 12 Through God we will do valiantly, For it is He who shall tread down our enemies. (Psa 60:11-12)

This verse says it all. The help of man only goes so far. People are going to let you down, but the Lord never will!

Joseph was down in a dark and dingy Egyptian prison through no fault of his own. But up on top out in the free world there was a scandal in Pharaoh’s court. Pharaoh’s butler and baker offended their lord, were thrown into prison, and landed next to Joseph. On a certain night these two ex-government employees dreamed a dream and Joseph interpreted these dreams for them. And you know what? The interpretation came about just as Joseph had predicted. The baker was hanged, and the butler restored into the service of Pharaoh.

Joseph had pleaded for the baker to say a good word for him to Pharaoh and had really expected him to do so. But this is what happened: (Gen 40:23) Yet the chief butler did not remember Joseph, but forgot him. What a bummer! You see, people really can let you down. You do something good to someone and what do you get in return sometimes? People can neglect you, use and abuse you, and leave you in the dust.

But what did Joseph learn? He learned to not trust in man, but to trust in the Lord. And guess what happened later? Well . . . you know the rest. Joseph interpreted Pharaoh’s dream and in one day he went from the prison to the palace!

Man will let you down but through God we will do valiantly. Put your trust in the Lord and wait for Him to lift you up.
