THE UNFINISHED TASK

And He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. (Mark 16:15)

Do your remember as a kid how your parents would make you finish a task that you didn’t complete? You thought what you did was good enough. You fudged on a lot of details and cut corners to just get it done. You had other things to do. Things that were fun and interesting. Anything but what your parents wanted you to do. But then they caught on to you and called you into question for that unfinished task. They told you to go back and do it right and do it until it was done. And off you went saying how unfair it was when you had so much else to do. And now you’re doing the same thing to your kids!

As Christians, we have an unfinished task to complete. The Lord gave us His Great Commission to go into the whole world and share the good news with everyone. Have we accomplished that goal? Listen to these current statistics about a world comprised of billions of souls:

- 33% of the world’s population include Christians of all kinds (Catholic; Protestant; Orthodox, Evangelical, etc.)

- 40% of the earth’s population are evangelized non-Christians (who haven’t come to the Lord yet).

- 27% of the earth’s population are unevangelized non-Christians (they’ve never heard the gospel).

What can we do to finish the task?

WE CAN PRAY: (Mat 9:37-38) Then He said to His disciples, "The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. 38 "Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest."

WE CAN HELP SEND AND SUPPORT MISSIONARIES: (Rom 10:15) And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: "How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, Who bring glad tidings of good things!"

WE CAN GO OURSELVES: (Isa 6:8) Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying: "Whom shall I send, And who will go for Us?" Then I said, "Here am I! Send me."

God looks at the world as a field ready for harvest (John 4:34-35). May our eyes be opened and may our hearts be burdened for the multitude of lost souls in our world today. And may we jump in to do our part to complete the unfinished task!
