SUDDEN MOVES

(Isa 52:12) For you shall not go out with haste, nor go by flight; For the LORD will go before you . . .

One of the major causes of traffic accidents is sudden moves. On impulse a person decides to turn into another lane. They’re in a hurry. They’re late for an appointment. Or they just don’t want to miss their turn and have to go around and come back. They fail to put on their signal indicators. They don’t give people around them time to make room for them. They try to squeeze in at the last minute and bang! They feel bad they hit you. You ask them why they did what they did, and they mumble a thing or two. But when you really get down to it they made a sudden move.

Does that describe you sometimes? I don’t mean on the road to work. But how about on the road of life? When you look back at some of the devastation in your personal history would there be a possible admission of a sudden move? You know, you made a rash decision. You panicked. You were upset. You got desperate. Instead of staying in your lane you made a sudden move and had an accident. It wasn’t nice, and you paid the price. You got your way, but you had to pay.

How many times do we have to make a sudden move before we learn that when we insist we take a risk? This is a lesson I have had to learn over and over again. I’ve had to learn the difference between persistence and insistence. It’s okay to keep persevering but it’s dangerous to be swerving in the direction where I independently want to go. I’ve got to stay on course and let God open up the way for me. Then I’ll make that move I’ve been wanting to make. It’s smooth. It’s seemingly effortless. I’ll end up where I wanted to be all along. It’s always a sweet ride when I abide.

God’s not in a hurry my friend. Enjoy cruising along the King’s highway and wait for the Lord to open up that change of scenery for you!

  • (Psa 27:14) Wait on the LORD; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the LORD!

  • (Psa 37:7) Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for Him; Do not fret . . .

  • (Psa 37:34) Wait on the LORD, And keep His way, And He shall exalt you to inherit the land . . .

  • (Psa 40:1) I waited patiently for the LORD; And He inclined to me, And heard my cry.

  • (Psa 130:5) I wait for the LORD, my soul waits, And in His word I do hope.
