(Isa 60:1) Arise, shine . . .
We have heard it predicted that in the last days things will be so dark and depraved. And it’s true isn’t it? We keep saying it can’t get any worse but then it does! We pray so arduously for the Lord to come back and take us out of here and bring us safely home to heaven. Although we possess this hope as believers, are we to be fearful of this onslaught of evil and darkness on us and our families? Or is there another way to look at it? I believe there is, and I would like to call it “moral polarity.”
Moral polarity carries the thought that in the last days the dark will get darker, but the light will also get lighter. Times will be so morally dark and degenerate, but God will still be working in His Church and causing revival and preparing His Bride for His coming. I’ve heard this thought before and have always hoped it would be true but in reading through the prophet Isaiah I came across a promise that seems to support this idea:
(Isa 60:1-3) Arise, shine; For your light has come! And the glory of the LORD is risen upon you. 2 For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, And deep darkness the people; But the LORD will arise over you, And His glory will be seen upon you. 3 The Gentiles shall come to your light, And kings to the brightness of your rising.
Now prophetically this refers to the future Messianic kingdom but there seems to be an application we can make for our Christian life today:
1) Jesus is the light of the world and has said we are the light of the world. We are to shine for Him in the darkness. (John 8:12; Mat 5:14; Phil 2:15)
2) The darkness of the last days will be so extreme that it can be described as “deep darkness.” (Mat 24:12; 2 Thess 2:3; 2 Tim 3:1-5)
3) But Christians are to be encouraged because the Lord will protect us in this wicked world and cause people to be drawn to the light of Jesus in us. (John 12:32, 17:15; 1 Cor 14:24-25)
We see polarity work in geography, science, and even in social studies. But I believe polarity is also operating in the spiritual domain. As our world chooses to keep on rejecting God this will have an increasing negative effect on the moral climate in the world which we believers in Christ have to live in and interface with. But on the other hand, we know the Lord has promised to protect us and pour out His Spirit in the last days. I believe if the devil can have a revival then we can have one too! Let’s believe God to be working so powerfully in these last days in reviving His Church and in rescuing souls from destruction. And let’s keep from compromise because we don’t want to be polarizing over to Satan’s side! Arise, shine . . . !
