DEADWOOD

(Luke 3:17) "His winnowing fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clean out His threshing floor, and gather the wheat into His barn; but the chaff He will burn with unquenchable fire."

I was watching the wind this past week kicking up all over the place. Not only did it give me a “bad hair day” but my dog was freaking out (we had to let him in the garage), stuff was blowing all across the freeway, and my trees got a free pruning job! Now that pruning job from the Lord was nice. It’s going to save me a lot of work this pruning season. All that old deadwood was cleared out and now the new growth will be ready to bud this spring.

I can’t help but think that there is a lot of deadwood in my own life. You know, things that I should of cut out long ago but now the Lord has to do it. And man does it hurt! He wants me to be more than a bushy, overgrown bush. He wants me to bear fruit for Him. He wants to thin me out and boy do I need it! It’s like when I go to get a haircut. I feel like the werewolf and I tell the haircutter to take it down. I go in looking like a guy with a fro from the ‘70's and come out looking up to date. I always feel so renewed after a trim . . . and they don’t even give you a stick of gum anymore!

Got some deadwood hanging around in your tree these days? Take it to the Lord. Don’t wait until it gets so bad He has to send the strong wind of the Spirit to whisk it away from your life. Keep up with a regular trim so you can continue to bear fruit for Him!
