PROMISES

(2 Pet 1:4) by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises . . .

Isn’t it great when someone promises you something and they come through on that promise? You have so much respect for that person because they did what they said they would do. Contrariwise, when you have someone promise you something and they flake out on you, it makes you feel hurt and disappointed. You realize that person is unreliable and it’s hard to trust them in your future dealings with them. God has given us so many wonderful promises for us to claim . . . and He has the power to deliver!

GOD HAS GIVEN US PROMISES THROUGH HIS WORD WE CAN STAND UPON: (Rom 9:4) who are Israelites, to whom pertain . . . the promises.

GOD PROMISED CHRIST AND HE DELIVERED: (Rom 15:8) Now I say that Jesus Christ has become a servant to the circumcision for the truth of God, to confirm the promises made to the fathers.

GOD’S PROMISES ARE SO POSITIVE, IT’S AS IF THEY HAVE ALREADY COME TO PASS!: (2 Cor 1:20) For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us.

GOD’S PROMISES ENCOURAGE HOLY LIVING: (2 Cor 7:1) Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

BY FAITH AND PATIENCE WE INHERIT THE PROMISES OF GOD: (Heb 6:12) that you do not become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

SOME PROMISES MAY BE FAR OFF IN THE FUTURE: (Heb 11:13) These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off were assured of them, embraced them . . .

GOD GIVES PROMISES IN THE FIGHT TO ENCOURAGE US: (Heb 11:33) who through faith subdued kingdoms, worked righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions.

The other day I was out for a walk and saw a rainbow waiting for me at sunrise. I felt it was an encouragement from the Lord that my day was going to be rough, but I was to trust His promises to get me through. Sure enough, it was a difficult day, but I sensed the Lord with me fighting my battles. At the end of the day, I was so grateful that God’s promises come to pass, and I can stand upon them no matter what the circumstances. (Num 23:19; Josh 23:14) When times are tough, when people bail, God’s Word will always prevail. Read-believe-receive!
