MORE HOURS IN YOUR DAY

"But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” (Mat 6:33)

Have you ever been so busy you wished that you had more hours in your day? You might be a busy mom staring at that never-ending pile of laundry, a business man wishing you could have crossed more off your “to do” list, a student who works so hard yet feels the constant avalanche of assignments. Whatever the case may be, I think we’ve all longed for more hours in our day to relieve the pressure of some responsibility looming over us. But is there something better we can do than to wish for more hours in our day? Yes! It’s putting God first in our lives and at the beginning of each day.

Jesus said to seek first the kingdom of God. Are you seeking the Lord in your life? Is knowing Him the greatest aspiration of your heart? Or is there something or someone else that is above Him? (Phil 3:10; 1 John 5:21)

Jesus also said to seek His righteousness. Are you trying to live the right way through pleasing God? Have all your goals and objectives and course of action been submitted to God’s desk for His approval? Are you doing the right thing in the right way? (1 Sam 2:30; 1 John 3:22).

If you are seeking the kingdom of God and His righteousness, then the promise is to you that all these things shall be added unto you. What are “these things”? The concerns of life as recorded in the greater context of Matthew 6.

If you get up in the morning and give God the day and seek to honor Him as you go throughout the day, then God will see to it that your concerns will be met. He will give you strength for what you have to do and what doesn’t fit in that day will be tomorrow’s concerns. You don’t have to close out your day with a sense of failure and then stay up late trying to finish all your “to dos”. (Psa 127:1-2).

Put your life out before the Lord, every aspect. Then ask God to help you prioritize and organize it all. Keep your life simple. Don’t try to complicate things by thinking you have to do everything for everybody yesterday. Let go that which is no longer necessary. Then live life with an ease about unfinished business knowing God is in control and His timing is perfect. One day at a time, one thing at a time, and you’ll be just fine.

It doesn’t have to be so hard. Relax, take a breather, and enjoy life the way God intended.
