And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord's Christ. (Luke 2:26)
If you’ve ever been far away on vacation or a business trip, you can’t wait to board that plane and get back home. You’ve had a good time but your purpose has been fulfilled and you are longing get back. And in the whole scheme of things you are always checking to make sure your plane ticket is secure. Everyday on your trip you make a mental note of where that ticket is. And when you get ready for the airport you make sure it’s on your person or you know where it is on your computer or cell phone. In line at the airport, you’ve got your ticket ready and it becomes the most important commodity in your possession at the time.
Simeon was looking for his ticket. It wasn’t for an airplane ride because in his day that form of transportation didn’t exist. He was a godly and devout man who lived in Jerusalem. The Holy Spirit had spoken to his heart that he wouldn’t die until he had seen the promised Messiah. Well, God always fulfills His promises, so at the moment Joseph and Mary were there in the temple with the Child Jesus, Simeon walks in and had a chance to take Jesus in his arms and say a prayer of thanksgiving. What was he thanking the Lord for? That he had in his hands the ticket he needed to heaven! You see, Jesus said "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. (John 14:6). Jesus is the ticket you need to get home to the Father.
Do you have your ticket to heaven? All you have to do is believe and you will receive. One of the greatest promises in the Bible is this: "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. (John 3:16) You see how simple the plan of salvation is? Your ticket has been provided for you. All you have to do is receive it. Give your life to Jesus today. Don’t try to make it hard or complicated. Turn your life over to Christ and He will change your life and give you that ticket to heaven that you can never lose because the promise is “everlasting life”. Jesus . . . don’t leave earth without Him!
