APOLLYON

(Rev 9:11) And they had as king over them the angel of the bottomless pit . . . in Greek he has the name Apollyon.

During the Tribulation there will be hideous locusts going around inflicting pain on people like the torment of a scorpion when it strikes a man. The pain will be so bad that men will want to die but be unable to. The leader of these locusts will be the angel of the bottomless pit. His name will be Apollyon, which means “destroyer.” I’m so glad I’m not going to be around because the Lord will take the Church home before these judgments (1 Thes 4:16-17). But even today the spirit of Apollyon is among us and is destroying lives.

Satan means “adversary.” If you have any enemy it’s going to be him. This is what Jesus said of our foe: (John 10:10) "The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy . . . (John 8:44) . . . the devil, . . . was a murderer from the beginning . . .

The devil is a rip-off! Look at what he’s done to the world. Look what he’s done to nations, families, and to people’s lives. Apollyon is among us today and is the leader of a horde of demons bent upon destruction like the locusts that destroyed all the territory of Egypt (Exo 10:13-14). His sting is strong and painful and is a living death. (1 Cor 15:56) The sting of death is sin . . .

Men are writhing under the awful pain. Sometimes you can just look at a person and see the mark of Apollyon on him. Is there any hope for an antidote? Yes . . . Jesus’ body is the antibody! He died on the cross and destroyed the destroyer!! (1 John 3:8) . . . For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil. Now we have the victory over him!!! (Luke 10:19) "Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

Through Jesus our lives have been healed and restored. (Joel 2:25) "So I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten, The crawling locust, The consuming locust, And the chewing locust . . . We have a new master and He is bent on construction, not destruction. (Luke 11:12) "Or if he asks for an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? (John 10:10) . . . I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.

If you’re having a problem with Satan trying to destroy you then this promise is for you: (Rom 16:20) And the God of peace will crush Satan under your feet shortly.

Have you been stung by what you have gone through in life? (1 Cor 15:55) "O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory? What Satan meant for evil God has meant for good. Remember that for the Jews the locust was a clean insect and John the Baptist ate them for breakfast! (Lev 11:22; Mat 3:4) Jesus takes the sting out of life and makes me sing! (Exo 15:1) . . . "I will sing to the LORD, For He has triumphed gloriously!
