WORSHIP WITH THE WALLET

For of Him and through Him and to Him are all things, to whom be glory forever. Amen. (Rom 11:36)

There are so many ways to worship the Lord. We can sing and pray. We can lift our hands. We can tell someone what God has done for us. But did you know you can worship with the wallet?

Some people think money is the root of all evil. Not so. The love of money is the root of all kinds of evil (1 Tim 6:10). We need money to live and operate in this world and God has graciously promised to meet all of our needs (Phil 4:19). As God meets our needs we lift up our hearts in praise to Him for all His blessings. Then we can also worship with the wallet. You see, how we spend our money is just another way to glorify the Lord.

We all know the tendencies regarding spending money; from the miser to the manic and everywhere in between. But when you worship with the wallet you enter the greatest experience of expenditure on the planet.

You see, when I put God first with my money, He leads me in the details of my spending. I know I have only so much in my income and budget so as I pray God gives me wisdom in financial decision making (James 1:5). He gives me self-control to not overspend (Gal 5:23) and he gives me faith when I need to let my money go (2 Cor 5:7).

I struggle sometimes over the price of things. I can get depressed not only over the cost of gasoline but also of the price hot dog buns! I kid you not . . . the other day I was probably at it for five minutes deciding which kind of hot dog buns to get. It was all so confusing and all so expensive. I’d rather spend my money on something else (like Starbucks!).

Yes, we can worship with the wallet. As we pay our bills. As we make purchases throughout the week. As we give to the Lord and as we might be directed to be a blessing to someone else by buying that gift for them, picking up the lunch tab, or giving to a missionary. The Spirit will lead us and then we will be amazed at how our budget is working out so well. All things are of Him, through Him, and back to Him . . . even money.

I love discovering new ways to worship the Lord. And I sure like knowing that I can worship with the wallet!
