WHERE’S THE BEEF?

(1 Cor 3:2) I fed you with milk . . .

I admit it. I’m a carnivore. Cheryl had a coupon for a restaurant the other day and we used it for breakfast. Because of the savings I ordered steak and eggs. It was pretty much gone in a second. Oh, it was good. And I felt I could take on the world after that.

Funny thing about meat. It’s the protein that’s going to last. And when it comes to spiritual food, the Bible says we are to move quickly from the milk to the meat. Listen to these verses:

  • (1 Cor 3:2) I fed you with milk and not with solid food; for until now you were not able to receive it, and even now you are still not able.

  • (Heb 5:12-13) For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid food. 13 For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe.

You can see how the writers had a concern for their spiritual babies to grow up and move on from the milk to the meat.

So where are you at in your spiritual growth? Are you still on the bottle and can’t get full throttle? Are the things of this world choking out the Word of God in your life? (Mark 4:18-19) I talked to a fellow this week who said he can’t find the meat at his church. The church’s goal is to draw new people in and they have a goal to reach 5,000 by the end of the year. So they design all the studies to reach new people but this brother can’t find the beef! (Amos 8:11)

Are you hungry for the Word? Then you can identify with Job and Jeremiah:

  • (Job 23:12) . . . I have treasured the words of His mouth more than my necessary food.

  • (Jer 15:16) Your words were found, and I ate them, And Your word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart; For I am called by Your name, O LORD God of hosts.

Are you feeling weak lately in your walk? Then read the Word daily (Psa 1:2-3). Go out to church and Bible studies (Psa 122:1; Heb 10:25). Get back to the table where your hungry spirit can eat and be strong for all God has for you to do in life. No more junk food and no more dieting! Wake up everyday and ask yourself . . . WHERE’S THE BEEF? (No coupon needed!!)
