SUPERSAINT

. . . for you have a little strength . . . (Rev 3:8)

Ever try really hard to be good Christian? You get high hopes and you tell yourself that this is the time you’re going to break on through to the other side and be that Supersaint. You read the Bible diligently. You fast and pray until you’re exhausted and have bad breath. You witness and hand out tracks, feed the homeless, serve in every ministry at church, quit watching TV, throw away your old Monkees albums, iron your clothes for Sunday, quit eating chocolate chip cookies and potato chips, tithe 10.5 % of your income (gross), repent at every altar call, get your neighbor to church, and most importantly . . . skip having a Christmas tree because it represents idolatry!

The recipe for being a Supersaint never ends. The minute we think we have to do something we set ourselves up for failure because the Bible says we are already saints by virtue of what Jesus has done for us on the cross (Col 1:12). He has made us righteous before the Father (2 Cor 5:21). There’s nothing we can add to the work Jesus has done. It is finished (John 19:30). What great news! I can supersize my order at the drive-thru but I don’t have to supersize my sainthood because I became a qualified saint when I met Jesus at the cross. You see . . . you’re either a saint or you ain’t!

Christianity is not an exercise, but a built-in relationship with the Lord that keeps growing and growing in grace from the moment we believe until we are taken home to glory (2 Pet 3:18).

So relax and enjoy your relationship with God . . . and enjoy a chocolate chip cookie!
