STIR UP YOUR GIFT

Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. (2 Tim 1:6)

Do you save your paint cans in case you have to do a little touch up later on? I’ve got tons of old paint cans under my workbench in my garage. I save every can I use and they go back years. It even gets to the point where I forget what can went to what project, but I still don’t throw them away. Well, when you get to the point when you need to open the can and use it, it takes years to get the lid off! And after you finally pry it off you look into the can and see something that doesn’t look like paint at all. But it is paint! And it needs to be stirred up so it can be useable again.

What gifts has God given you that might be laying dormant right now in your life? Remember that when God graces you with a gift He won’t ever take it away. For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable. (Rom 11:29) Jesus also taught us to invest our talents so that we can be fruitful for our Lord. And do you recall how he admonished the man who buried his talent in the ground? (Mat 25:14-30) Is your paint looking like it ain’t? Then it’s time to stir up that gift of God within you.

We don’t ever want to be a “has-been” Christian, whether in our walk with the Lord or with the gifts we used to serve the Lord with. Today is a new day and it’s time to serve the Lord because He’s coming back soon! There’s work to be done and God wants to use our gifts to spread His beautiful love and colorful salvation around. Let’s open that lid and stir up those gifts within us. Then let’s paint the town red (His precious blood) for Jesus!
