(Job 24:23) He gives them security, and they rely on it . . .
Wee little children love things to hold on to, things that make them feel secure. It could be a security blanket or a stuffed animal or the like. They always have to have it with them. They cling to it. They love to feel it. It’s familiar to them. It makes them feel secure. It’s there in their bed, it’s there in the car, it’s there just about everywhere. Try to take it from them and you’ll be sorry! Leave it behind and you’ll be making a U-turn to retrieve it no matter how far you’ve gone or how high the gas prices are.
But then the child gets older. The security blanket starts to look worn and torn, like a relic from the Civil War. Your child also starts looking funny with it because now they’re too old for the item. It’s time to let go of the security blanket. You hide it and there’s a fuss. You try to replace it with an age-appropriate something but the kid’s too smart. You cut it down in size, but it doesn’t matter. So now dad and mom have to get serious. Fuss if you must but this security blanket has to go. My precious child has to grow up!
What might you be holding onto for security in life? What do you turn to when you feel stressed? What brings you comfort when you get anxious? Is it TV? Is it food? Is it hours online? How about alcohol? Prescription drugs? Is it a savings account? Is it a person? Is it routine? Is it your backup plan? Do you start cleaning? Do you start controlling? And is this healthy? And more importantly . . . is there a better way to feel secure and comforted in life? Aye . . . check this out:

It’s time to let go of our security blankets and to put our trust in the Lord! (1 Cor 13:11) When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things. When the going gets tough let’s run to Jesus! (Pro 18:10) The name of the LORD is a strong tower; The righteous run to it and are safe. God loves you and He’ll make sure things will work out. Let the Lord be your safety net. You will never fail because His love has prevailed! (Rom 8:32) He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?
