MY FATHER’S BUSINESS

(Luke 2:49) And He said to them, "Why did you seek Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father's business?"

What kind of business are you in? Do you work with your hands? Do you sell insurance? Is it something with computers? Are you at home raising children? A lot of people even dabble in a side business to make extra money. Some times you see those signs that say, “Make between $600 and $6,000 a week. Ask me how.” Yea, right! Only the drug dealers are pulling in that kind of money!

But can I tell you about an enterprise that pays rich dividends? It’s being about our heavenly Father’s business. Do you look at your job and life as an opportunity to be a witness for Christ? Do you seek to serve your family at home? Do you desire to make a difference in someone’s life in a given day? Or is it just the money or the mundane that you swim in all week? God has a higher purpose for our lives. And that’s to be about our Father’s business as we do our usual business.

How about singing a favorite hymn as you trim your hedges this weekend? Or wearing your Christian T-shirt out in public to point the way to Jesus? Or making sure you are the happiest person that checker has seen go through her checkout line all day? These are small things but it all speaks about being in a continual mode of worship. We never punch out in our work for the Lord. It’s 24/7, in season and out of season. (2 Tim 4:2)

Isn’t it great to know the Lord and to be about His business all the time? May the Lord open doors of opportunity for us this week. There is a work to do out there in God’s vineyard. And the night is coming when no man can work (John 9:4). And if we all do our part we can win this world for Jesus Christ!
