(1 John 1:9) If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
I remember the first time I told a lie. My mother was upset that a bathroom towel had not been placed on the towel hanger where it belonged. She asked me if I did it and I said, “Nope!” Do you know that I just recently told my mother about that? She couldn’t believe I remembered that incident all these years. She immediately put me on restriction (just kidding!).
When you carry around a burden of unconfessed sins it will literally crush you. But when you confess them and forsake them you are forgiven and a great weight is lifted from your shoulders (Psa 32:1-5).
It is a good habit to keep “‘fessed up!” When the Holy Spirit brings conviction to your heart it is time to agree with God and put that thing where it belongs . . . under the blood of Jesus Christ. If we try to rationalize or justify our sin, things will get worse, pile up, and eventually avalanche back on us. “A little leaven leavens the whole lump” (1 Cor. 5:6).
So, we have a choice. We can either “‘fess up” or “fester”. I’d rather fly like an eagle than be a pack mule for my sin. Jesus took the weight of my sin on the cross. Praise God!
