FAMINE OF THE WORD

(Amos 8:11-12) "Behold, the days are coming," says the Lord GOD, "That I will send a famine on the land, Not a famine of bread, Nor a thirst for water, But of hearing the words of the LORD. {12} They shall wander from sea to sea, And from north to east; They shall run to and fro, seeking the word of the LORD, But shall not find it.

There is a famine of the Word of God in the world today. It’s the worst kind of famine there is. People have the Word of God right in front of them but they are not reading it. God wants to speak to them but they keep putting Him off. They appear emaciated and have no strength to solve the problems in their lives. But those of us who love the Lord will love His Word.

Jeremiah put it well, “Your words were found, and I ate them, and Your word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart” (Jer 15:16).

Job said, “I have not departed from the commandment of His lips; I have treasured the words of His mouth more than my necessary food” (Job 23:12).

The apostle John said, “... I have written to you, young men, Because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, And you have overcome the wicked one.” (1 John 2:14)

Brethren, let’s enjoy the Word of God! Let’s treasure it in our hearts and devour it and get built up in His strength so we can be overcomers in Jesus Christ!
