A GOOD SENSE OF HUMOR

(Neh 8:10) . . . Do not sorrow, for the joy of the LORD is your strength."

Do you tend to take life too seriously? Are you the responsible type that puts demands on yourself? Do you categorize fun as only when your work is over, and things are crossed off your list? Then you need a good sense of humor.

Having a good sense of humor is the ability to laugh at things when they go wrong. It means you can laugh at yourself when you make a mistake, or the joke is on you. It is the capability of looking at adverse circumstances and laughing instead of crying. Does this describe you?

It’s a good trait to be conscientious and responsible but there is a limit as to what we can do. Only God is almighty. I wonder how many burdens we have placed on ourselves that God never intended us to have? We get so involved in our tasks and duties that when things go wrong we just snap. Is that the way we are supposed to be?

Do you enjoy life? Do you see each day as a gift from God to be cherished? Do you see each person you encounter as an appointment or a disappointment? When you encounter people are you short and brash? Or do you bring joy and sunshine into a person’s life by your positive spirit and lightheartedness? When things get heavy at home or work do you seek to diffuse the pressure by bringing in a little brightness? Having a good sense of humor is like the sun to a cloudy day. It can lift up the saddest heart and bring hope to a dismal atmosphere.

God’s people should be the most optimistic people on earth . . . when we consider all God is and what He has done for us through Christ. And when you think about it, a good sense of humor points us back to God. It’s telling people that it’s okay to be human and that there is really only one Person who is in control of this universe.

Hey Christian, you have permission to lighten up! (Pro 17:22) A merry heart does good, like medicine . . .
